Get out the pots and pans! Get out whisks and spoons! Yourkids will have a blast making the sounds of rain and thunder whileyou read Tap Tap Boom Boom by EmilyBluemle and G. Brian Karas. Then letthem get carried away with a surprise rainbowmade with shaving cream and paint.
The wind is picking up. The clouds are gathering. The sky is getting dark. Better hurry. A storm is coming. Tap Tap Boom Boom is an exciting poemfor all ages about what happens in the city when the rain pours and thunderbooms. Vendors hawk umbrellas. Everyone ducks for cover. Strangers become friends.
Blackjack and the Law is the foundation of that arsenal. For those more interested in the political ramifications of gaming’s unprecedented growth, other chapters titles are ’The Federal Government is Watching You and Your Money (CTR’s, Taxes, Search and Seizure),’ ’Internet Gaming,’ ’Indian Gaming,’ ’The Casino Boom’ and ’The Federal Gaming. Game Description. Match the tiles to break down the 3D puzzles, but make sure you don’t get stuck or run out of time! Tap Zap Boom is a free online game that’s simple to play: all you need to do is tap! Each tap will fire a zap toward the target. The number on the target indicates how many more zaps you need to complete the level. Firing zaps will charge a super zap that’s 5x as powerful as a normal zap.
Everleigh and Ava both truly enjoyed the dramatic languagein Tap Tap Boom Boom. Four-year-old Everleigheven asked if we could find more poetry books in the library. The mixed media illustrations convey thefeelings of the words beautifully.
After reading through the book, I emptied the kitchencabinets of my pots, pans, bowls, spoons, and most everything that looked funbut not breakable or sharp. I asked thegirls if they could make the sound of rain and thunder like in the book. They enthusiastically accepted the challenge. They reveled in finding the myriad of soundsproduced by cookware. We practicedmaking drip drop sounds, tap tap. And thunderous sounds, boom boom.
Hialeah casino poker room. Once they had gotten the wiggles out, we sat on the ground, and I read the book again. This timewhenever I read tap, tap or boom boom, they would play the soundalong with me. A loud but awesomely funway to read a book together.
Towards the end of the poem, city-goers emerge from thesubway and doorways to see a surprise rainbowin the sky. There are any number ofrainbow crafts you could do to go along with the story, but I wanted something surprising.
We filled trays with shaving cream, then we squirted paint onto the shaving cream “clouds” to make a colorful rainbow. It took almost a whole can of shaving cream to fill the two trays.
The girls were impressed, but even more pleased when I said they could use their hands and paint brushes to play with their rainbows.
They loved this activity so much they asked to do it againthe next day!
Reading Tap Tap Boom Boom along with these companion activities is a perfect rainy-day activity for toddlers or preschoolers. But it is so much fun, go ahead and do them now, any weather is fine.Unfortunately, we are going to have to limit attendance next week to 45 or 50 kids, because there were just too many to do these activities smoothly.

I don’t know if there is any rain in the forecast, but it is officially monsoon season in Arizona so we celebrated it with a rain theme.
Rhymes(skipped the ’Good Morning’ song since it was going to be a very active storytime)
’Come Under My Umbrella’
Watch video of song here
Come under my umbrella, umbrella, umbrella (make umbrella with hands above head)
Come under my umbrella
It’s starting to rain (fingers wiggle moving downward)
With thunder and lightning (clap and spread arms above head)
and thunder and lightning
Come under my umbrella
It’s starting to rain
’Rain is Falling Down’
Rain is falling down (wiggle fingers moving downward)
Rain is falling down
Pitter patter, pitter patter (clap hands gently)
Rain is falling down..
SPLASH! (clap above head)
’Itsy Bitsy Spider’

The Thingamabob by Il Sung Na: An elephant finds a ’thingamabob’ and experiments until he discovers what to do with it.Apkpure
If you have an umbrella, it’s fun to OPEN it unexpectedly when reading about how the thingamabob sometimes surprised the elephant.
Tap Tap Boom Boom by Elizabeth Bluemle: It’s a mad dash for shelter as rain sweeps into an urban neighborhood. The subway is a perfect place to go for shelter.
I previously read this book with group of kiddos (ages 3-5) letting them use rhythm stick to tap together whenever I read, ’Tap, tap,’ and tap above their heads whenever I read, ’Boom, boom,’ - which comes up often. They quietly held the sticks while I was reading and waited for their cue.
THIS DID NOT HAPPEN in my group today. The kids were banging incessantly while I read even though I stopped a couple of times and asked parents for their help. I had to stop this activity, collect the sticks, and read The Big Storm by Nancy Tafuri instead.
Movement Songs:
Here is Sara, a teen volunteer, working hard to put a scarf and a long piece of string into 55 bags (yes, we ran out) to use in our movement activities today:
’Mud Puddle Jump’ Listen here
The kids used their pieces of yarn to form a mud puddle in which to walk around, jump into, splash in, and shake the water off.
’The Ants Go Marching’ I always play a little of this video so the kids understand what the song is about before we march like ants using our scarves as umbrellas:
Ending Activity: Make a rainstorm using your hands.
I tell an Arizona monsoon version of this activity. It’s really cool if you actually listen to what’s going on:

Evening Family Storytime:
I decided not to try the Tap Tap Boom Boom book in the evening since there are often many little guys there and read The Big Storm by Nancy Tafuri instead.
Blackjack Tap Tap Boom Boom YoutubeThe lovely Miss Erica helped bring this story to life by puppeteering the critters who scamper out of the rain into shelter while I read the book. The two bears were in the back of the ’cave’ the whole time but no one seemed to notice so it was a fun surprise when they came out at the end of the book:Miss Erica (fantastic, creative librarian that she is!):Blackjack Tap Tap Boom 2
